glow

Pop Up at the Melbourne Design Festival,

Yoke Creative in collaboration with

Eliza Downes and Phoebe Whitman

The Melbourne design festival will radiate across Melbourne with its theme glow

Glow; Glow;

(n)The amount of electromagnetic radiation leaving or arriving at a point on a surface.

“the evening glow of the city streets when the sun has gone behind the tallest houses” (Seán O'Faoláin)

Glow starts at a point and radiates out in all directions becoming weaker and fragmented as it spreads.

At what point do we encounter the effect of this radiance?

If what we see is only on the periphery, what does it tell us of the source?

Experiences hidden within buildings remain unseen, unable to effect the people passing outside. How can we extend the experience of an interior beyond its physical boundaries?

The installation aimed to capture radiating elements that express the city of Melbourne. These elements are fragments: taking captive radiating elements that express the essence of the Melbourne city.

These elements are not always the focus but can occur on the periphery of an event itself. How can you frame or harness these co-incidental events to create a new space and to highlight things that go previously unseen.

The city has its own glow, an intangible force that arises from its inhabitation.

The proposed installations utilize the ephemeral glow of the city to highlight unseen activities of the interior, drawing people in.
